As Apple boasts of creating two million U.S. jobs, it has been accused of making life as a small developer unsustainable. The claim was made by Matt Gemmell, a software engineer who used to work for Apple as a contractor and whose source code has been used in hundreds of iOS and macOS apps. Gemmell wrote this in a blog post in which he argues that Apple has ‘trained’ consumers to think that apps should be free or extremely cheap, and that they shouldn’t have to pay extra to run an app on multiple devices, or for updates....

While iPad isn’t a full desktop replacement for most users, it has certainly expanded and evolved what can be done with a mobile device. And in some scenarios, there’s no question iPad is the best fit, like a DJ performing in near zero-gravity from the International Space Station. The first-ever live DJ set in space was performed by European astronaut Luca Parmitano recently and iPad running Algoriddm’s djay app was what made it possible....

The popular smart lock and doorbell camera maker, August, has today announced it has hit 1 million users. The milestone comes after August’s first smart lock hit the market back in 2013. August announced the news in a blog post: August’s first product five years ago brought a more convenient solution to smart locks, with a retro-fit style that let users to keep their existing deadbolts. The company still uses a similar design today for its Smart Lock Pro (reviewed) which works with HomeKit out of the box....

According to the newly-released DisplaySearch Tablet Quarterly report, shipments of tablets powered by chips based on ARM’s CPU designs will grow by a projected 211 percent in 2011 to nearly 60 million units. At the same time, mobile devices using Intel’s x86 architecture are not expected to pick up steam until 2013. Meanwhile, Apple sold 11.12 million iPads in the September quarter, a 166 percent annual unit growth, grabbing a Strategy Analytics-estimated 67 percent market share of all quarterly tablet shipments, down from 96 percent in the year-ago quarter when the company took the market by surprise and left competitors flabbergasted....

As the Arrowverse recovers from Crisis On Infinite Earths, Arrow revealed how the superheroes and their allies are able to remember the events of the crossover without the aid of J’onn J’onzz aka The Martian Manhunter (David Harewood). The penultimate episode of Arrow, “Green Arrow and the Canaries,” was a backdoor pilot for a spinoff set in Star City of 2040, centering on Mia Smoak-Queen aka the next Green Arrow (Katherine McNamara) joined by Laurel Lance aka Black Siren (Katie Cassidy) and Dinah Drake aka Black Canary (Juliana Harkavy)....

Arrow was the second most popular Arrowverse series at the time of its cancellation. The CW has confirmed that an abbreviated season 8 will be the end of Arrow, with many viewers believing that Oliver Queen will sacrifice himself to save the Multiverse in this year’s “Crisis on Infinite Earths” Arrowverse event. The announcement is a radical shakeup for the Arrowverse and naturally, it’s led to intense speculation among viewers as to just why The CW is pulling the plug on one of its flagship TV programs....

AT&T’s push of ‘5G E’ networking has been nothing but controversial, and now a new study casts even more doubt on the technology. Opensignal today published the results of a study that compared the speeds of AT&T’s 5G E network to Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon 4G LTE. The results from the test show that the performance of AT&T’s 5G E network is comparable, if not worse than, the performance of traditional 4G LTE networks of AT&T and Verizon....

After August previously filing for trademark rights for View last year, Dave Zatz discovered an image of the upcoming smart doorbell today. In a nice change from the blocky square design that August currently uses with its current Doorbell Cam Pro, the View takes a more minimal, rectangular form factor....

Avatar: The Last Airbender was a cultural phenomenon that is widely regarded as one of the best television shows ever, despite being an animated children’s program. Even though the show aired on Nickelodeon for a three-season run, you’d be hard-pressed to find anybody from the ages of 8 to 80 that doesn’t consider this series a masterpiece. The lovable air-bending master, Aang, was definitely on the goofier side for somebody destined to save the world, but he is only 12 after all....
