Warning: SPOILERS ahead for Avengers: Endgame.
Another TV spot for Avengers: Endgame has been released, showing some of the film’s most memorable (and spoilery) moments in HD. The latest MCU film has been doing exceptionally well. In just its second weekend of release, the film crossed the $2 billion mark. It’s now the second-highest-grossing film of all time, surpassing Titanic. It’s not a sure thing yet, but there’s a chance it could even surpass Avatar for the top spot.
Endgame is a crowd-pleaser, with plenty of moments that garner cheers. Captain America finally utters the famous catchphrase, and wields Thor’s hammer. The Marvel trinity - Cap, Iron Man, and Thor fight together against Thanos. In the climax, there’s a scene of Marvel’s leading ladies taking the spotlight, and even Howard the Duck makes a cameo. Endgame works because it builds off of 21 films. It provides closure, while also opening doors for new stories. Endgame is a film that will be talked about for years to come.
Marvel Entertainment has released a new TV Spot for Endgame, titled “Assemble.” With the spoiler ban having lifted Monday, it appears Marvel has no problem showing some key moments in the marketing. The Spot is built around Captain America saying, “Avengers Assemble.” We see the Guardians of the Galaxy, Doctor Strange, and more emerging from the portals in the climax. Of course, we also see Cap wielding Mjolnir. Iron Man and Pepper are shown fighting together. The edited footage overall is primarily taken from the grand climax, promising those who have not yet seen the film a battle greater than everything that has come before.
Although it may seem surprising that Marvel would show these iconic scenes, one can imagine that this type of marketing is directed toward more casual audiences. Disney knows Endgame has a strong chance at surpassing Avatar. So, by showing these big moments, it could entice casual viewers who are waiting for the Blu-ray release or rental. A lot of what’s shown in Endgame’s final battle is payoff from previous films. It was hinted that Steve Rogers had the ability to lift Thor’s hammer in Age of Ultron. We get to see that in full force in Endgame. Iron Man arguably has the biggest scene of the movie, sacrificing himself for the universe. This is the ultimate end to his journey that began 11 years ago.
Avengers: Endgame has set itself up as this decade’s cinematic event. There likely won’t be another film like it for a long time. Although it works as a conclusion, the real end to Phase 3 is Spider-Man: Far From Home. Though it looks like Tony Stark and Steve Rogers will no longer be the driving force behind the MCU, the future is bright, with new films and shows on the way.
