An Avengers: Endgame toy set may reveal when the Hulk returns. In three weeks, Marvel Studios will release the Joe and Anthony Russo-directed movie, written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. The culmination of everything that has transpired in the MCU in the last decade, the movie will put the original franchise heroes at the forefront of the story as they come after Thanos, who left the galaxy in shambles following The Decimation in Avengers: Infinity War. This means that after missing action for the most of Avengers 3, Bruce Banner’s green-rage alter-ego will inevitably return to help take down the Mad Titan.

Emerging in Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok from 2017 after he ventured into space by the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron, the Hulk was living the gladiator life in Sakaar being the Grandmaster’s unbeatable champion. That was until Thor roped him in to help defeat Hela and save the Asgardians. They succeeded on their mission, but even before they were able to make their way to Earth, they were hijacked by Thanos who was looking for the Tesseract/Space Stone that Loki had. Infinity War opened with a battle between the Mad Titan and the Hulk, with the latter easily beaten and sent crashing to the Sanctum Sanctorum bearing the news that the villain and his men were coming. This set the events of the movie in motion, but fans never saw the Hulk for the rest of the movie.

Given this, one of the burning mysteries in Endgame surrounds the expected return of the Hulk. And now, fans may have an inkling when the transformation happens thanks to a tie-in figures for the movie. The set offers glimpses of Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, Thanos and a raging Hulk, wearing what seems to be his brand new costume. The Mad Titan’s toy stepping on the Avengers’ logo somehow confirms that the Avengers HQ will be the back drop for an action set piece in the movie. This insinuates that Bruce finally turns into his alter-ego to help his teammates battle the villain in their own turf. Check the official Diamond Select figures to see for yourself (hat tip CBR)

Endgame’s Avengers HQ battle has been teased by a couple of other toy sets coupled with some snippets from trailers. So while there’s no explicit confirmation that it will be the case in the film, it’s safe to say now that the heroes will find themselves engaged in a battle in their own backyard regardless on when it’s going to be in the film. All surviving characters convening in Earth’s Mightiest Heroes’ base camp, including Banner, were mulling over the people they know who have perished from Thanos snap. It’s unclear what triggers the Hulk to return after refusing for the most of Infinity War. Popular theory is that he was spooked by how Thanos easily beat him, but the Russos confirmed that he’s not afraid of the Mad Titan. And if the two-pack Funko Pop is any indication, he’ll have another crack at the villain in Endgame.

While many are waiting for Banner’s transformation to Hulk, it’s also important to learn what really caused their discord in Infinity War. Assuming that they survive past the events of Avengers: Endgame, it will be pivotal in what their dynamic will be moving forward. Ragnarok revealed a more intuitive Hulk and from the looks of it, Banner is able to retain some memories when he’s his alter-ego evidenced by his recollection of Thanos’ attack on the Asgardian refugee ship.
