New Avengers: Endgame fan art shows Thanos wearing Iron Man’s famous Hulkbuster armor, in a mashup no one saw coming. Avengers: Endgame was released last year and saw the Avengers finally defeat the villain Thanos. The movie wrapped up the MCU’s Infinity Saga that began with 2008’s Iron Man. However, the final Avengers film didn’t come without sacrifice, as the hero who started it all, Tony Stark/Iron Man, sacrificed himself to save the world. The emotional beats of the movie resonated with audiences, who helped it become the highest-grossing film of all-time at the global box office.
The Hulkbuster armor is a favorite among Iron Man fans and for good reason. It was created by Tony Stark and Bruce Banner in Avengers: Age of Ultron, when both became concerned about Hulk’s instability. In that movie, Tony wears the armor as a means to subdue his friend when necessary. However, the tables turn in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. In those movies, Bruce himself wears the Hulkbuster armor when he’s having trouble becoming the Hulk. This allows him to help his friends, especially during the Battle of Wakanda in Infinity War. In Endgame, Bruce uses it again to fight Thanos, with all of the Avengers having better luck that time around.
Digital artist Alex Kovalenko shared the image of Thanos in the Hulkbuster armor on his Instagram page. In it, he can be seen standing in water, with the lights on the suit illuminated. The character looks even more invincible with the armor than he did in the Avengers movies. Check out Kovalenko’s creation below:
Though fans are still interested in discussing Avengers: Endgame and the massive impact it had on the MCU, they’re also looking ahead to Phase 4. It includes an exciting slate of new movies, as well as several Disney+ shows. Black Widow, which comes out in May, will be only the second MCU film to release after Endgame, though chronologically it takes place before. This time frame has led many to wonder if Iron Man himself may pop up, something Robert Downey Jr. has remained mum on. Black Widow will also be only the second MCU movie with a solo female leading it, after Captain Marvel with Brie Larson.
It’s unknown at this time if the Hulkbuster armor will make another appearance in the MCU. Considering Tony’s death and the fact that Bruce Banner has embraced his green alter ego as Professor Hulk, there may not be much use for it. At least the armor can live on in fan art like this, even if it makes for a terrifying combination. With the trouble the Avengers had defeating Thanos in Avengers: Endgame, it’s probably for the best they never had to face “Thanosbuster.”
