Brian Braddock aka Captain Britain may have been introduced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Avengers: Endgame. Marvel Studios just wrapped up a story that was 22 movies in the making and did so in some definitive ways; Iron Man died to save the universe and Captain America grew old with Peggy Carter after returning the Infinity Stones to the past. The latter pays off an arc that many fans wanted to see, but also gave the two an actual encounter after Cap sees her in 1970 during one of the time travel missions.

But, Avengers: Endgame also helped set the stage for what else is to come in the future of the MCU. Falcon has taken on the mantle of Captain America, Thor joined the Guardians of the Galaxy, and Valkyrie is now the ruler of Asgard. Even a possible Namor tease was included in the film. However, the aforementioned encounter with Peggy and Cap may have actually helped introduce another Marvel hero into the MCU.

When Captain America sees Peggy Carter at Camp Lehigh in 1970, she is talking about a mission that may introduce Captain Britain. Thanks to closed caption screenings shared by Reddit users u/droideka75 and u/wolfthang88, Peggy says that someone named Braddock hasn’t checked in recently. Who is this Braddock? Well, it may just be Brian Braddock aka Captain Britain.

Brian Braddock is a British superhero who first debuted in Marvel Comics in 1976. Following the death of his parents, Brian took his studies very seriously and was badly injured in a motorcycle accident as he tried to escape a group of mercenaries who wanted to kidnap him and other scientists at Thames University. At this moment, the wizard Merlin and his daughter Roma give him the option to live if he becomes Britain’s next guardian. He must choose between the Amulet of Right and Sword of Might, and he gains his superpowers after selecting the Amulet.

Braddock has never been teased before in the MCU, but Avengers: Endgame looks to be changing that. If this tease from Peggy is referring to Brian, then we could even be hearing about his origin; his unresponsiveness could be a result of his injured state, while a line about something similar to lightning could possibly be Merlin giving him his powers. We don’t know what happens after this though, leaving room for speculation regarding Brian Braddock’s potential MCU future. Does S.H.I.E.L.D. find Braddock and help turn him into a hero, or could he have disappeared entirely from the 1970s only to reappear in the present day?

That said, it is also possible that this tease is setting up Brian on a smaller scale, as the lack of a first name mentioned could mean Peggy is referring to his father, James Braddock. His scientific genius could make him a recruit to S.H.I.E.L.D. back in the day, and since he was a prior version of Captain Britain, he could serve this role in the 1970s until his son takes over in the future of 2023. This type of set up would also mean that Brian could actually be introduced in the present day, instead of Marvel Studios doing another period piece origin film for one of their Captains.

If Captain Britain is gearing up to join the MCU, he would certainly be a good addition to Phase 4. After spending so much time building up US supers, he would be able to further expand the geography of the heroes that the MCU has, just as Black Panther has and eventually Shang-Chi will do. Maybe we could even get a tease of him in Spider-Man: Far From Home as Peter travels across Europe this summer.

In addition to giving the UK a hero of their own, his ties to magic could further help the MCU introduce more magical elements. There were rumors last year that Guy Ritchie was going to direct a Captain Britain and Black Knight movie, and even though that has not been corroborated to this point, Kevin Feige has confirmed that he’s a character Marvel’s discussed getting involved. Maybe this tease in Avengers: Endgame is all part of the plan for Captain Britain.
