It’s clear that Avengers: Endgame had a very different vibe from previous Avengers films due to the events in Avengers: Infinity War, which affected the Marvel Cinematic Universe on many levels, including the famous title card at the very beginning. The heroes who vanished during Thanos’ snap also disappeared from the intro, but the title card shown minutes later sounds different as well – and it’s also because of the snap.

Avengers: Infinity War ended with Thanos fulfilling his plans of wiping out half of all life in the universe by mounting all the Infinity Stones on the Infinity Gauntlet and snapping his fingers. As a consequence, Avengers: Endgame focused on the efforts of the surviving heroes to undo the snap and bring back those who vanished. Watching characters like Spider-Man, Black Panther, and Bucky Barnes literally turn into dust was quite shocking and depressing for both the characters in the film and fans all over the world. Marvel knew exactly what they were doing, and extended the snap to other details in Avengers: Endgame.

Once Avengers: Endgame was released on digital HD, fans noticed that the opening intro with all Marvel films and heroes looked very different as the vanished characters were erased from it. But the repercussions of the snap went beyond that, also making the title card for the film sound different by cutting a part of it in half. The result is a seemingly slowed-down version of the theme.

Why Avengers: Endgame’s Title Card Sounds Different

Just as characters like Doctor Strange, Scarlet Witch, and even Ant-Man (who was alive but trapped in the Quantum Realm) were missing from the Marvel logo intro, the title card shown a few minutes later has a snap-related detail. While the opening intro had Traffic’s “Dear Mr. Fantasy” as background music in order to lead viewers to the following scene with Tony Stark and Nebula, the title card had instrumental music, very much like previous MCU films – but it’s only half the orchestra playing. Like the erased heroes from the intro, this is a detail that can easily slip, especially when you’re invested in the story.

Given that the snap erased half the population of the universe, Marvel decided that it would be a very symbolic touch to have only half the orchestra play the Avengers theme when the title card appears – even if some fans have found this to be a not-so-appealing touch, with many voicing their disapproval and saying it isn’t symbolic at all and only makes it sound bad. Others don’t hear any difference, and some others think it was a nice addition from Marvel, and another proof of their attention to detail. Thankfully, the Avengers managed to undo Thanos’ snap and get rid of him for good (at the cost of Tony Stark’s life), meaning that future MCU films will have full orchestras again – and full superhero teams, of course.
