Avengers: Endgame will be available on Disney+ at launch. The Mouse House is just under a week away from kicking off their highly-anticipated streaming service, which combines all of their various subsidiaries under one umbrella. Over the past several years, Disney has built an immense media empire, which includes the likes of Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, and the studio’s own in-house productions. Since all of those are wildly popular with viewers, there’s been a great deal of interest in Disney+.
A key selling point for the platform is its original programming, such as new shows set in the Star Wars and Marvel universes (The Mandalorian, Falcon & Winter Soldier). But Disney+ is also banking on the company’s deep library of pre-existing titles to draw in subscribers. It goes without saying several of the MCU and Star Wars movies will be among the hundreds of films available to stream at launch, though there will be a couple of notable absences. For a while, it looked like fans were going to have to wait until December to stream Endgame, but now Disney’s changed their mind.
On Twitter, the official Avengers account announced Endgame will hit Disney+ on November 12 in the U.S., Canada, and the Netherlands, and November 19 in Australia and New Zealand, Take a look at the confirmation video in the space below:
Demand is likely what influenced Disney to shift Endgame’s streaming date up by a month. Released this past April, the film went on an unprecedented box office run, eventually surpassing James Cameron’s Avatar (which will also be on Disney+ day one) as the highest-grossing movie of all-time. Despite the three-hour runtime, Endgame was a film fans were eager to experience again and again, meaning there was substantial interest in watching it at home. Even though Endgame is available on digital and Blu-ray now (meaning many fans likely have their own copy), there were likely just as many opting to wait for streaming to rewatch it. With that in mind, it makes a lot of sense to have Endgame on the Disney+ right away.
Endgame bolsters what was already a very robust lineup for the streaming service, giving people extra incentive to sign up (if they haven’t already). Clearly, Disney is trying to boost their subscription numbers a bit before launch, hoping the Endgame announcement leads to an increase in pre-sales (it’s been available for pre-order since late September). It’ll be interesting to see what kind of impact the arrival of Endgame has, but Disney is definitely going for broke to get out ahead in the streaming wars. It’s hard to compete with their top titles.
