Fans have finally gotten their first official look at the team’s new costumes in Avengers: Endgame. Considering how events played out during the final act of Avengers: Infinity War, the new looks only apply to the surviving members of the team - minus a few key players. In this case, only the original six members of the Avengers are included.
With Avengers: Endgame’s release date getting closer and closer, Marvel’s secrecy is as strong as fan anticipation. That said, little by little, fans are getting morsels of information, footage, and imagery to tease the final battle against the Mad Titan Thanos. And, even though Kevin Feige stated that promotional material for the film may only include footage from the first 20 minutes, what little that’s been revealed has been enough for fans to craft plenty of theories and expectations. Now, they have their first official look at the original Avengers’ new costumes in the film.
As part of an Avengers: Endgame-themed contest with Orville Redenbacher, the website features the team in their new outfits. Though most of the modifications are subtle to casual viewers - aside from the fact that Hulk is suited up in something other than torn purple trousers - diehard fans have plenty to dissect. Take a look at the image below:
The standout changes to costumes are subtle, but significant. Notably, Captain America (Chris Evans) is no longer ditching his red, white, and blue look in favor of his newfound Nomad-inspired identity, the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) is wearing clothes, Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) is sporting both her traditional red hair from earlier films, as well as the platinum blonde locks she had in Avengers: Infinity War, and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) will follow Captain America’s lead by taking on a wholly new identity as Ronin. And, as noted in concept art for Avengers: Endgame, Iron Man’s (Robert Downey Jr.) new suit will indeed feature more gold than earlier designs, which harkens back to his Mark 2 suit from the comics.
Avengers: Endgame is no doubt one of the most anticipated film of 2019 (just beside Star Wars: Episode IX), so the mere look at new costumes for characters who have graced the screen for over a decade is enough to excite fans. That said, considering this film may well mark the end of these characters (some of them, at least), the various nods to classic looks can almost be considered more bittersweet than exciting. If this is the end for some of them, the classic-inspired looks may turn out to be little more than a nod to the past before what is ultimately their unexpected swan songs.
