A man was reportedly beaten up outside of a movie theater for revealing spoilers to Avengers: Endgame. Avengers: Endgame is, of course, the recently released Marvel movie which shows the Avengers trying to undo the destruction caused by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War. Endgame is not only the fourth Avengers movie, but it is also the 22nd overall film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the end of the Infinity Saga.
Disney is usually very secretive when it comes to Marvel movies, but the production on Avengers: Endgame was even more so than usual. The trailers and TV spots for Avengers: Endgame revealed the bare minimum for the movie, causing people to go into the theater knowing very little about the plot. It seems like fans weren’t the only ones to be kept in the dark, since Robert Downey Jr. was the only actor allowed to read the full script for the movie. The directors, Joe and Anthony Russo, even went as far as initially lying about the title of the movie to keep the film a secret. Once the film got closer to being released, the directing duo launched the #DontSpoilTheEndgame campaign, but it seems as if not everybody got the hint.
According to AsiaOne (via CBR), a man was attacked outside of a theater in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong after revealing spoilers to Avengers: Endgame. The incident is said to have taken place at the entrance of the theater, where the man loudly revealed the spoilers to people who were walking into the theater. There is some speculation as to whether this actually happened or not, but there is a photo of the man receiving first aid and others who were at the event claim to have heard someone revealing spoilers.
Avengers: Endgame broke an opening night box office record, with Disney pulling in $60 million on the very first night. AMC even added a record number of around-the-clock showings to try to keep up with demand. With Avengers: Endgame selling over $120 million in pre-sale tickets alone, there was no doubt a lot of people would be going to the theaters this weekend. With as anticipated as Avengers: Endgame is, most fans want to go into the film without hearing any of Avengers: Endgame’s biggest spoilers. That being said, not everyone is lucky enough to get into the film’s first showing, or even get to the theater on opening night.
Now that Avengers: Endgame has been out for a few days, it seems like there isn’t a safe place to hide from Avengers: Endgame spoilers. It’s no surprise that spoilers are lurking on social media, but fans can’t even seem to make it into the theater without hearing spoilers, since people who are walking out from a screening may be talking about the film. It is no doubt frustrating if Avengers: Endgame gets spoiled for fans, but violence still isn’t the best action to take.
