One of the deadliest villains in the MCU is set to make their return in Avengers: Damage Control, which is an upcoming VR game that is featuring the voice work of many different prominent MCU actors, including Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange and Tom Holland as Spider-Man. Avengers: Damage Control is being co-developed by Marvel Studios and ILMxLAB, the latter of which is the branch of Lucasfilm that deals with virtual reality games and mixed reality games, including ones that have been set in the Star Wars universe, such as the Vader Immortal series of VR games.
The story of Avengers: Damage Control puts the players in the role of two recruits who have been hired by Shuri to test out new sets of power armor, which have been created through a mixture of Stark Industries and Wakandan technology. The recruits are soon thrust into battle, as Ultron has returned (as predicted in the past) in order to steal this new technology for himself. The Avengers are called into action and several characters are forced to face Ultron for the first time, such as Ant-Man, Doctor Strange, and Spider-Man. Avengers: Damage Control is set in the MCU, but it doesn’t appear to fit in with the timeline of the movies and shouldn’t be considered canon.
The ILMxLAB Twitter account has uploaded a new video of Avengers: Damage Control and it has given fans their first glimpse of some of the characters who will be in the game, as well as hearing several MCU actors reprising their roles in the story. Benedict Cumberbatch is voicing Doctor Strange, who is one of the first to learn of Ultron’s return, while Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is seen welcoming the new recruits and saving them from a falling vehicle.
The Avengers: Damage Control trailer ends with some banter between Ant-Man and the Wasp, who are voiced by Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lily respectively, as they are about to face off against animal versions of the Ultron Sentries. The trailer also shows Black Panther, the Falcon, the Hulk, and War Machine fighting alongside the players, but their voice actors have yet to be confirmed. It has previously been confirmed that Letitia Wright is also returning as Shuri, as she appeared in the original trailer for Avengers: Damage Control.
There have been numerous MCU related cartoons and video games released over the years and almost all of these have featured professional voice actors, rather than the actors who appeared in the movies. The upcoming Marvel’s Avengers uses well-known voice actors for the roles of the Avengers, such as Laura Bailey and Troy Baker, rather than the original actors who played the characters. Avengers: Damage Control is being made in conjunction with Marvel Studios and it’s clear that a lot of attention has gone into making the game feel as authentic to the films as possible, which means that it’s necessary to bring in the same actors that brought the beloved Marvel character to life.
