Smart lock maker August announced its latest device today at CES 2015 simply dubbed ‘Connect’. The August Connect is an WiFi-connected device that plugs into a power outlet in your home to provide the Bluetooth-connected August Smart Lock with a constant Internet connection. August says its latest accessory enables several new features for owners of its smart lock product… For example, August Smart Lock users that add an August Connect to their setup gain the ability to remotely unlock the door for guests from anywhere as long as you’re on the grid. This remote use will be available through August’s mobile app for both iOS and Android.

The company adds that using its Connect to enable constant Internet connectivity to the Smart Lock will enable August to send users notifications of all lock activity—potentially a useful safety and security benefit.

As part of its announcement, August also unveiled its new private API “enabling the August Smart Lock to work with trusted partners in the home security, home automation and rental industries. With August Connect and these new API integrations, users can now customize an enhanced, secure home entry and exit experience with third party devices.”
