Starting tomorrow, AT&T will be revamping its Mobile Share Value plans by adjusting data tiers and plan prices for new and current subscribers. At the low end, AT&T is consolidating a few data tiers into just two options with different price points. Meanwhile, AT&T’s double digit data tiers are also being reduced, and some subscribers can potentially end up with more data at no extra cost per month or get a better rate on even higher data tiers.
While AT&T’s 300MB option for $20/month remains unchanged (and not recommended), the carrier is consolidating single digit data tiers from three options down to just two. Mobile Share Value currently offers 1 GB for $25/month, 3GB for $40/month, and 6GB for $70/month, but starting tomorrow that simplifies to 2GB for $30/month and 5GB for $50/month. Not major changes here, but you could potentially drop or jump to a better suited tier for a better deal or to save some money.
For subscribers needing more data (this is where I fall), AT&T’s refreshed Mobile Share Value plans can offer more data at the same rate, or even more data at a better rate than old plans. Today, AT&T offers 10GB for $100/month and 15GB for $130/month, but starting tomorrow AT&T will remove the 10GB tier and offer 15GB at its $100/month rate. Subscribers looking for even more data will find the current 20GB data for $150/month drops to $140/month tomorrow.
Also starting tomorrow, AT&T’s 15GB and 20GB tiers will include unlimited talk and text to Mexico and Canada, competing with T-Mobile’s recent ‘Mobile without Borders’ feature. Other perks for higher tiers include $15/month access fees for AT&T Next phones versus the $25/month rate at tiers below 15GB. The carrier notes that it will continue to offer data at 25GB, 30GB, 40GB, and 50GB as well.
Subscribers using today’s data tiers and rates won’t see any change, of course, but current and new subscribers can access the new plans and rates starting tomorrow so you’ll want to change your plan, especially if you’re a 10GB subscriber, to take advantage of the better deal.
