It is always interesting to see the OEMs not forgetting to roll Android OS updates for their older devices. Yes, we are talking about the usual delayed Android Pie updates. Now when the stable iteration of Android 10 is rolling out, there are still devices craving for the older Pie OS update. A good example is the AT&T Moto G6 Play which is currently receiving the Android 9.0 Pie update. The new system software is identifiable by its build number PCP29.118-63.

Usually, this delay is a common occurrence with tele-carrier specific smartphones. There is a thorough testing process carried out before rolling a major system update into the devices. In fact, AT&T is the last of all the US-based tele-carriers to roll out the Pie update for its device.

So, the AT&T Moto G6 Play users will receive the Android Pie as well as step up on the security patch. The new software brings the September 2019 security patch to the device.

As you may see from the official changelog note, the Android 9.0 Pie update for AT&T Moto G6 Play weighs in over 1GB. So, if you see the prompt of the new update, use Wi-Fi for faster download.

OTA may not reach everyone at a single point of time. So, while a few users receive the update others may not get it for a few days. If you belong to the latter group of users, then you can manually search for the update. Go to device Settings > System > About Phone. Now, after searching for the new update, if it shows up with the mentioned build and changelog, then tap on Download.

Again, we suggest you use the Wi-Fi network for faster download and installation of the update. Make sure to have a battery charge of up to 70% on your device. Otherwise, a low battery will hamper the installation process.

With the Pie OS onboard the Moto G6 Play, users will get to experience the navigation gesture. Besides, the new update will bring improved Neural Network API, Multi-camera API, dedicated screenshot button, etc. Also, Pie OS comes with smart replies, improved Autofill Framework API. Android Pie also adds the support for HDR VP9 video and HEIF image compression. To know in details about Android Pie you can click here.
