When the CW first announced plans for Arrow, fans were skeptical about the reinterpretation of the character. After a rocky start, however, the show found a dedicated fan base and proved to be a great place to see DC adapt its comic book heroes and villains. Since then, the Arrowverse has expanded to include The Flash, Supergirl, and Legends of Tomorrow. Considering the shows share a network, and that Barry Allen debuted on Arrow, it wasn’t suprising when the shows began to crossover. First, Arrow and Flash joined forces during a two-parter in 2014. The next year, the Legends got in on the action as Vandal Savage and the Hawks were brought into the fold. Last year marked the biggest crossover yet, with all four sets of characters joining forces across every show but Supergirl (save a small cameo at the end).

The Invasion! storyline proved to be such a hit that the producers have continued weaving the shows together ever since. We know Laurel Lance will be popping up on Legends soon, and Flash’s rogue Captain Cold will be returning to the show as well. Meanwhile, Barry so regularly journeys to other Earths in the Multiverse, that it seems like only a matter of time before Supergirl’s parallel reality gets brought in line with the other shows.

Thanks to EW, we now know the producers of the Arrowverse are already considering a proper four-show crossover next year. When they spoke with Andrew Kreisberg about the possibility, he said plans were in the works.

Kreisberg spoke a bit about the production scheduling issues that ultimately kept Supergirl from doing a full-blown crossover episode. Though the upcoming Black Lightning may face a similar issue next year, the Girl of Steel will finally get to join the action on her own turf.

“Next year, we’re hoping to do a true four-way crossover. The great thing about our dear friends at the CW and Mark Pedowitz picking the shows up as early as they did has allowed us to start building the schedules for next season.”

Watching so many titans from DC Comics join forces was a blast during the crossover last year (and is much of the appeal of Legends). The idea that Supergirl, Superman, and Martian Manhunter might get properly pulled into the action is not only exiciting, but brings us that much closer to seeing the Justice League pop up on TV. Now, all we need is Green Lantern.

“The thing that we didn’t really plan on — because we weren’t aware that we were going to switch Supergirl from CBS to CW and it was really going to be part of it — that was the one show that didn’t have built-in shut-down days, so all the other ones did. Melissa [Benoist] ended up being heavily in Flash and then in Arrow, so Supergirl was the one we needed to shut down the most and it was the one that we didn’t have any opportunity to. Now that we’ve gotten the early pickup and we’ve started designing the seasons, we’re building in those dark days, and actually more dark days on Supergirl than the other shows, to make it a little easier.”

Supergirl airs Mondays at 8 p.m. on the CW. The Flash airs Tuesdays at 8, with Legends of Tomorrow following at 9. Arrow airs Wednesdays at 8 on the network.
