Producers of the Arrowverse say they haven’t yet ruled out the possibility that the Green Arrow will return at some point after last night’s Arrow series finale. Oliver Queen, aka the Green Arrow, was portrayed by Stephen Amell and was the central protagonist in Arrow’s eight-season run. The hooded archer sacrificed himself to save humanity during The CW’s crossover event, Crisis on Infinite Earths. Season 8 brought the series to a close, but the series finale honored the late hero’s life and legacy.

Flagship series Arrow first aired on the CW in 2012, developed by Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, and Marc Guggenheim. When Arrow first aired, it was by no means a sure win for The CW. The Green Arrow was a relatively lesser known comic book character in mainstream consciousness. While The Dark Knight trilogy served as an influence for Arrow, the movies also set a new, high standard for superhero adaptations. The risk, however, paid off, as Arrow became its most watched show that season. Since then, Arrow went full tilt into the superhero and supernatural lore, spawning several spinoff shows that included The Flash and creating a multi-show superhero multiverse. While the Green Arrow may be gone, the Arrowverse lives on.

During a THR interview, Arrow executive producers Marc Guggenheim and Beth Schwartz discussed the show’s finale and all the hard work and planning that went into it. They then got into the possibility of Amell’s Green Arrow returning to the Arrowverse. Said Guggenheim, “Who knows what’s going to happen in the future? – The one thing I always say every time a character dies on any of the shows, it’s like, we’ve got alternate realities. We got time travel, we got flashbacks, you name it. We have all these different devices. No one’s ever really gone.”

Guggenheim expressed that he would “love to always see Stephen back,” but the circumstances in which this happens would be pivotal. “If we brought him back in the seventh season premiere of Flash it would probably diminish this a bit. Fortunately we we have some sway with those folks.” Following Guggenheim’s sentiments, Schwartz jokingly stated that “There’s always the opportunity to cut to him and Felicity in the afterlife just hangin’ out!”

Arrow fans know that death is temporary in the Arrowverse, with characters returning from the dead and actors returning to play different roles. As the team behind Arrow has not ruled out the possibility, it’s very feasible that fans will see Amell don the green hood and reprise his role again in the future. After all, most of the Arrowverse shows are still on air and going strong. In the superhero comic book world, anything is possible.
