Alexis Eddy, star and fan-favorite of Are You The One?, has passed away at the age of 23. The West Virginia native was always smiling and made friends with her costars easily.
Are You The One? is a dating series that used modern technology to help young people find their true love. 20 men and women go to a secluded island where they must hunt out their perfect match. A dating algorithm is used to help ensure compatibility, which includes in-depth interviews, questionnaires, and testing. The perfect matches are kept a secret from the contestants, who must get to know one another while living in a mansion together. If all 20 contestants get the answer correct, they win one million dollars.
According to TMZ, Eddy was found dead on January 9 in her West Virginia home. According to the Mannington Police Department, the reality star died around 7 a.m. in the morning. The police were called to the scene and were told that there was a woman in cardiac arrest, with the family performing CPR. The MTV network released a statement saying that they are deeply saddened about the tragic loss of Eddy and that their hearts go out to her family. The young star appeared in the sixth season of Are You The One?, which was filmed in New Orleans and first aired in 2017. The reality TV star had a troubled past with substance abuse, but recently had improved and was focused on her recovery. On Eddy’s social media was a picture of her and her father smiling, with a caption that read that they were both sober and healthy. Eddy’s grandmother told news outlets that her granddaughter’s death was due to a drug overdose, saying the MTV show had a negative effect on her. But another close family member reported that Eddy was still sober when she had returned home the night before she died.
Members of the show’s cast reached out via social media to express how sad they were to hear the news of Eddy’s passing, including Samantha McKinnon, Courtney Lee, and Diandra Delgado.
