The first teaser for Nickelodeon’s Are You Afraid of the Dark? has been released. Are You Afraid of the Dark? originally premiered on the network back in 1990, and was an anthology series that always started with a group of teenagers telling ghost stories. The series spooked kids back in its day, and is now returning in the form of a TV limited series.

A few years ago it was revealed that an Are You Afraid of the Dark? movie was in development, which wouldn’t adapt any TV episodes. The movie had an October 2019 release date, but Are You Afraid of the Dark? lost its release date at the beginning of this year. A few weeks prior to the film losing its release date, Nickelodeon announced that they planned to release a new Are You Afraid of the Dark? miniseries in line with the film’s release. Now fans can get their first look at that new series.

Nickelodeon recently released the teaser trailer for Are You Afraid of the Dark? on their YouTube page, which gives fans a look at what will be in store for them in a few months. The teaser is short, coming in at only 15 seconds, but Nickelodeon packed a lot into the video. The teaser shows some of the frightening characters that’ll be included in the three episodes, as well as confirming that the group of kids will still be called The Midnight Society. While the fate of the Are You Afraid of the Dark? movie is unknown, things are definitely moving forward with the miniseries. Jeremy Taylor, Sam Ashe Arnold, Tamara Smart, Lyliana Wray, and Miya Cech have been cast as the members of The Midnight Society, while Rafael Casal will be playing a carnival ringmaster named Mr. Tophat. The original series was an anthology, but this miniseries will tell the tale of “The Carnival of Doom” over three episodes.

Despite the teaser being incredibly short, it’ll no doubt produce excitement for the revival series. Many 1990s kids fondly remember Are You Afraid of the Dark?, and it’s about time that the series returned to terrify a new generation. Nickelodeon is no doubt playing into people’s nostalgia by giving shows like Rugrats new installments, but Are You Afraid of the Dark? also has a big fanbase, as one of the network’s few horror shows. With the series expected to be released in October, fans can expect to hear more about Are You Afraid of the Dark? soon.
