Jason Momoa, star of Aquaman, recently appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, throwing axes to raise money for charity. While it’s not something that you would expect from many actors, it maybe comes as little surprise to see the herculean star getting handy with an axe, and all for a good cause.

Looking less hirsute than we are used to seeing, due to the much-publicized removal of his beard a few weeks ago, the star appeared on the show demonstrating his skills with an axe, all the while making money for an environmental cause that he has recently become an advocate for. And, fans can expect to be mighty impressed with his efforts.

Sharing the moment on Instagram with his many fans saying “I DID IT ALL FOR THE OCEANS," Momoa can be seen appearing on Ellen for the first time. On the show he had mentioned his axe-wielding skills, prompting the TV show host to give him the opportunity to raise money for Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii, a grassroots, non-profit organization dedicated to caring for its local coastline.

The Aquaman star was more than keen to show off his talents, with skills that looked more suited to one of his screen performances than a real-life scenario. In the video Momoa can be seen throwing tomahawk style axes at a target with images of dollar-signed plastic water bottles, the bullseye containing a whopping $5000. Given the opportunity to raise money for a charity that complements the work he is doing around environmental issues, raising awareness of the damage done to oceans and coastlines, it comes as no surprise that the superhero star gave it his all.

And with his endearing personality, his physicality and impressive skills with an axe, the actor did not disappoint, raising $31,000 for the cause. The Instagram post has been incredibly popular, with a slew of comments from fans applauding his efforts, as well as from environmental agencies all keen to recognize the work that he is doing in raising awareness for such an important issue. The post even received a comment from Thanos himself, with actor Josh Brolin praising the star for “Giving back.”

Momoa shaved off his beard last month, losing the facial hair that had become so synonymous with his roles in Aquaman and Game of Thrones, in another Instagram post that introduced his new role as an advocate for cleaning up the oceans, ridding them particularly from single use plastics such as water bottles. Since then, the actor is looking to continue his work around this issue, aware now of his responsibility as a role model, especially to children and the next generation. While it was a shock for fans to see the more fresh-faced image of the star, his appearance on Ellen revealed the facial hair creeping back, something that will need to be considered when reprising of his role for Aquaman 2.

And so, it seems that Momoa is becoming as heroic a figure off-screen as he is on-screen, and there will undoubtedly be more publicity and action around his environmental work in the weeks and months to come. When it comes to cleaning up and protecting our oceans, it seems that Aquaman really does have it in hand.
