Games are abundant on the App Store, but not every title boasts a celebrity as its brainchild. This new app is the official game for “Electric City“, the blockbuster animated series by Hollywood mogul Tom Hanks. The app’s description said the game features Earth risen “from the ashes” and ruled by a new society, which controls the distribution of information and electricity, and where the user plays a “rebel character” trying to rise against the new world order. The series-turned-app touts challenges, missions, puzzles, mini-games, and the ability to compete with friends on various leaderboards. It does not have a rating on the App Store as of press time.
Aisle411 by Aisle411 Inc. for iOS | Free
While this app did not necessarily get an update, the indoor navigation startup just announced its biggest retail partner yet with Walgreens. The app supports 7,900+ U.S. Walgreen stores, so customers can view interior maps to locate products by section and aisle, with nifty consumer functions like lists, barcode scanning, and voice-to-text. Other retail partners include Hy-Vee, Safeway, Nob Hill, Raley’s, Vons, Foods Co, WinCo, Albertsons, Ralphs, Lowe’s, and Home Depot. It has a 3.5-star rating on the App Store with over 300 user reviews as of press time.
AutoRap by Smule for iOS | Free
The folks behind the whimsical Ocarina app are now tackling rap music. This new app does not boast the best graphics or technology, but it is certainly fun (and free) to try. Smule said it “turns speech into rap, and corrects bad rapping” by mapping the syllables of speech to any beat, resulting in heavily synthesized sound bytes. Hip-Hop legend Jay-Z even dubbed AutoRap “the death of Auto-Tune.” It has a 4.5-star rating on the App Store with over five user reviews as of press time.
Checkmark by Snowman for iPhone | 99 cents
Another reminder app, but this new one is creating a good amount of buzz in the blogosphere due to its slick user-interface. It is on-sale for a limited time and touts “the fastest way to remind yourself of all the things you have to do in your busy life.” With location and time-based reminders in just three taps, users can easily set notifications for calling people, making appointments, wake-up alarms, and more. It has a 4 star rating on the App Store with over five user reviews as of press time.
SchoolBoard by Epsilon Mobile for iPad | Free
This app also features a special introductory sale for its launch, as well as a good amount of press. “SchoolBoard is the all-in-one office suite designed specifically for iPad,” announced the app’s description, with emphasis on its usefulness for everyday tasks like reading books, taking notes, writing and drawing, managing classroom-related documents, and “doing math stuff.” A few of the top features include the ability to view and edit office documents, read and take notes with a PDF, view images, manage stickies, and calculating and graphing functions. An introductory video is available on YouTube. It does not have a rating on the App Store as of press time.
